CHALLENGE

Delivering multi-scope upgrade without pressing pause

Morrisons needed to refresh refrigeration across its Bradford Victoria store while keeping the doors open and trading as usual. Every phase had to be carried out in narrow overnight windows after midnight and completed before the morning rush. This required careful planning, tight coordination and the introduction of UK-specific pack technology designed to improve accessibility and long-term serviceability. The scope of the work spanned chilled, frozen and specialist counters, including Market Street, a core part of Morrisons’ fresh-first offer.

APPROACH

From cabinets to packs, an end-to-end delivery

Epta UK delivered the bulk of the upgrade, managing design, contracting, packs, cabinets, installation and cleaning from end to end. The project drew on the strengths of multiple teams across Epta: Epta Contracting’s highly skilled project managers coordinated the overnight works carefully and efficiently, keeping everything running smoothly and safely throughout the programme, while Epta Service carried out case and cold-room cleans to restore every system to peak condition. A wide range of cabinets were supplied and installed across the store, supported by the reintroduction of Epta packs into a UK supermarket project for the first time in almost a decade.
Redesigned for the UK market, the packs are far easier to maintain, giving engineers access from three sides rather than just one, cutting down service time and reducing disruption. Local manufacturing added further agility, allowing quick resolution of any issues and keeping the programme firmly on track.

  • UK-specific packs reintroduced, designed for easier servicing.

  • Case and cold-room cleans carried out by Epta Service, ensuring systems were fully refreshed before handover.
  • Local manufacturing support enabled rapid responses and kept the install on track.

OUTCOME

The Bradford Victoria upgrade was delivered on schedule, with no disruption to customers. For Morrisons, it means a refreshed refrigeration backbone that supports its fresh-first proposition across Market Street and beyond. For Epta, it marked the successful reintroduction of packs into a UK supermarket project after nearly 10 years, a significant milestone and proof of our ability to deliver complex installs end to end.
